Ceramic hip resurfacing: Medical premiere at Klinik Sanssouci

At the end of September 2025, hip specialist Dr. Alexander Moser implanted a ceramic hip surface replacement for the first time – making it one of the first implants of its kind in Germany.

Hip resurfacing is considered a joint-preserving alternative to traditional hip replacement surgery: rather than removing the entire femoral head, only the damaged joint surface is capped. This preserves most of the bone, promoting natural movement and high joint stability.

Ceramic hip resurfacing is an innovative implant that was recently approved in Germany. However, it has already proven itself internationally for years and has been used thousands of times.

“Ceramic hip resurfacing allows patients to resume almost unrestricted sporting activities even after surgery. Thanks to its state-of-the-art ceramic material, the implant offers excellent biocompatibility and avoids possible reactions to metal abrasion or components. I recommend the ReCerf® surface replacement because it preserves the natural bone, offers lasting stability, and enables my patients to lead an active, pain-free lifestyle,” explains Dr. Moser.

Hip surface replacement is not suitable for all patients. In particular, if bone quality is poor or there are pronounced deformities of the hip joint, a different form of treatment is usually recommended.

Dr. Moser is one of the few selected surgeons in Germany who are authorized to use the system. We congratulate him warmly on this special milestone and are delighted to be able to offer ceramic hip resurfacing at Klinik Sanssouci with immediate effect—as part of our commitment to providing patients with cutting-edge, state-of-the-art medical care.
