From Conference to Clinical Practice: Sharing the Latest Insights in Hip and Knee Replacement Surgery
From congress to everyday clinical care – how current findings in hip and knee arthroplasty are shared systematically within our team.
From 12 to 14 February 2026, resident physician Dr. Johann Walz and medical trainee Carla Calvo Rodríguez, accompanied by consultant surgeons Dr. Alexander Beier and Dr. Axel Marx, attended the 19th Endoprosthetics Congress at the Charité Berlin – one of the established annual conferences in German-speaking hip and knee arthroplasty.
The programme covered a broad range of topics: robotics, patient-specific implants and digitalisation, current prosthetic designs and surgical techniques for hip and knee replacement, case discussions and legal decision-making criteria – presented by experts from Germany and abroad.
A particular focus: patient-specific knee arthroplasty. “Patient-specific knee arthroplasty was a very prominent topic at the congress. These are custom-made knee implants, 3D-printed and individually manufactured to match the exact anatomy of each patient. I am pleased that we already use this technology at Klinik Sanssouci – in fact, significantly more frequently than many other clinics in Berlin and Brandenburg”, reports Dr. Walz.
As part of the residents’ monthly knowledge exchange format, Dr. Walz passed on his findings from the congress directly to his colleagues. New knowledge from research and clinical practice is thus channelled purposefully into everyday patient care – strengthening the collaboration between our resident physicians and the experienced consultant surgeons at Klinik Sanssouci.
